Show , Bingham Volunteer Fire Departments Reorganize The Bingham volunteer fire department was created by city ordinance and organized in 1904 into two companies, each having a chief and assistant chief, and having as its members must of Bingham's leading citizens down through the years, its members serving the community without pay, and in its tally years canvassed the merchants and townspeople for funds to purchase equipment for its two companies, underwent under-went its first major change Tuesday evening at the joint companies' meeting. iBy unanimous action of its membership of 50 men, the department de-partment was reorganized into a sintfle fll combat unit. Business officers lor 1948 are: W. E. Ragc-r, president; Grant Milner, vice president, and Harold W Nielsen, John J. Creedon was elected chief of the department, with La-Vell La-Vell Timothy, assistant chief. A captain and lieutenant to be appointed ap-pointed by them for each of the companies. Creedon spread recognition for efficiency, particularly under the handicaps imposed upon it by the peculiar I townsite and the many old and wooden structures and fire exposures ex-posures and the single street from winch all fires are fought. Chief Creedon has the distinction distinc-tion of being first to hold the r position of chief ot the Bingham volunteer fire departnu nt as a single unit; and by his wide experience ex-perience is well qualified for the position. He joined the department depart-ment through Company No. 1, October 25, 1925 and served in all offices of the company including includ-ing chief of No. 1 Company from 1932 to 1936. He was elected to secretary of the Utah State Firemen's Fire-men's association in 1931, a position po-sition he still holds and is well acquainted with all fire departments depart-ments in the state and knows many of their peculiar conditions and methods. Assistant chief Timothy joined No. 2 Company and has served in most of its offices, and for the Past year has served as assistant chief, No. 2 Company, and president pre-sident of the joint companies. The newly elected department l" ads will strive to maintain and improve Bingham's enviable fire record by adopting a well-rounded educational program for the entire membership and utilizing the latest firefighting techniques wherever conditions permit. |
