Ski Club Plan Kids Kids' Races By John Mooney looney Hey gang get out the old barrel staves this is it Appreciating the need for developing young skiers to replace the the the Jennings and the when the stars of today have to step aside in tomorrows tomorrow's competition the Salt Lake Telegram and the Salt Lake Ski club will cooperate in a series of junior slalom events this winter whiter with an eye toward interesting tomorrows tomorrow's skier today Under the direction of the Salt Lake Ski clubs club's Harold Hap Kimball all skiers who are no older than 17 years of age on Jan 1 1949 and their younger brothers and sisters will compete in a series of four races this season Boys to Compete in Three Classes Boys will A Compete in three classes and the girls will have two classes of competition Boys 13 years old and younger will compete in one group roup boys 14 and 15 years old will compete in n another and boys 16 and 17 will make up the third group The girls will be divided into 14 years old or younger and 15 years old through 17 years old Each of the four races will consist of a simple slalom course with the emphasis on the 4 fun of skiing rather than too much stress on the times C However the time factor will be vital inasmuch inasmuch inasmuch in in- as the leaders in each division will be battling for the junior championship trophy and medals to be furnished by the Salt Lake Telegram I Here is the tentative schedule of the four races this winter Dec 18 at Brighton Jan 15 at Alta f Feb 12 at Brighton March 12 at Alta Skiers in each age division will be awarded points similar to the finishers in a cross coun try race Therefore the winner of the Dec 18 race will receive one point second place two points fifth place five poi points ts tenth place 10 points place 25 points etc Racers Racer are urged to compete in a all l four races with their best showing in three races to count for the junior championship trophy Every skier who competes will be clocked and his times recorded The fastest time will be No 1 and so on At the end of th the l four races I or Ww 1 1 ii r f 4 q r j I r. r Jr q i oJ f 1 o. o j jf f J jj ji x y 11 J t 4 i A I.
