Show PLAYGROUND NEWS by Bailey J. Santistevan, supervisor super-visor of the Copperton Baseball Base-ball Playground. Enjoyed a visit from Frank Nelson, a former pupil in baseball base-ball and football. Frank is perhaps per-haps Bingham high school's greaies athlete. He brought fame to our school and to himself him-self when he led University of Utah to the Mountain Slates football championship last fall. He was regarded the best tailback tail-back in the conference. The nature of Frank's visit was to bid me goodbye, as he reported report-ed to San Francisco this week to begin pre-flight training in the naval air corps. We all wish this fine young man world's of luck. Nelson Leyba is catching for Dinkey ville and is getting his! share of hits daily. George Dimas is playing second sec-ond base for Copperton and has helped this team to win the third quarter championship in the Junior Jun-ior league. Robert Streator is the catcher for the Copperton Giants. About the only thing that interferes with his ball playing ia an occasional oc-casional fishing trip. Robert Zellar is the hard-hitting first baseman for the Copperton Cop-perton Giants. Chris Katis, Gibby Burke, Don Tyson and John Kemp are the mainstays of the Copperfield Tigers Ti-gers of the Peewee league. Wayne Chynoweth has returned return-ed from California and is trying hard to land with the Bingham Yanks. The Bingham Yankees are all decked out with new caps. The boys pooled their monev and Victor Roblez invested it for his teammates. Lynn Pett has been doing a fine job of catching for the Copperton Cop-perton Juniors. Paul Kenner and Kendall Timothy have jiined the Bingham Bing-ham Air Force and are two reasons rea-sons why this club is at the top. Robert and Abel Oseguera are two brothers who show a lot of baseball promise. They play with the Bingham Yanks. At present they are enjoying a visit from their brother ,Pfc Mike Oseguera of the Marine corps. Mike used to play on our playground. Howard Otteson continues to hit the" ball high, wide and handsome hand-some for the Bingham Yanks. The Copperton Giants defeated de-feated the Bingham Yanks 8-7 for the third quarter championship. champ-ionship. Rukus Cowdell and Lynn Pelt were the battery mates for the winning team. Amadeo Pino and Victor Roblez Ro-blez for the losers. Many fine plays were made by both teams. Tommy Garahana, shortstop for the Yanks made a great catch of Lynn Pett's line drive to retire the side, then the following fol-lowing inning came up with a hard hit ground ball which he threw home to retire Marvin Pullan. The teams are now all into the fourth quarter finals. The playoffs play-offs will be held August 16-17. Remember you are always welcome wel-come to come to the playground and watch our boys perform. |
