BOARD REFUSES TO HEAR TAX REQUEST Request of or the Granite school board to appear before the state tax commission com corn mission and the state stale department of public i instruction seeking an increase of 12 mills in the districts district's 1932 levy was denied by th the county commission commis commis- sion slon Wednesday In acting on the application members members mem memo bers of the commission held that the school expenses might be reduced to come within the le legal al levy without materially affecting c efficiency of the schools Heavy reduction in assessed valuations this year and numerous requests requests re reo re- re quests from property owners for further further further fur fur- ther reductions influenced th the action to some extent also it was explained by B. B F. F Quinn chairman of the com corn mission The Granite school district levy last year was 1218 mills which was 2 mills above the legal limit fixed in 1922 The school boards board's initial request request request re re- quest was to continue the mill 2 Increase increase In in- cre crease ue this thic year ear Later the request was modified and only 12 mills was requested In view of the count county commissions commission's action achon it is exp expected the Granite levy will be fixed this year ear at about 1018 mills
