ECONOMY BILL WAITS AWAITS ACTION Sponsors Guard It Secretly Until Revenue Measure Is Safely Passed n a nr Associated Tint Freis WASHINGTON May 28 28 Guarded Guarded today loday In deep secrecy the economy bill is completely restored and ready for tor senate action immediately the bil bil- bil lion-dollar lion tax bill is passed The six senators who rebuilt the measure in weeks of or special committee commit commit- tee work were fearful that if the new draft were disclosed too soon Interest interests interests inter inter- ests est which combined to slaughter the houses house's economy program would assemble assemble as as- once a again ain So they resolved to keep lips sealed until the measure has been approved by the full appropriations appropriations committee This committee will receive the thc bill Monday By Tuesday or Wednesday the revenue bill should be passed When that point is reached leaders believe the muddled legislative situation situa tion will clear itself considerably Moving the economy bill will open the way for the seven or eight pending pending pend pend- ing appropriation measures which may be passed rapidly once a definite policy polley toward the government expenditures expenditures is reached The economy bill is understood to reduce government operating costs by some Though the members of the special committee said noth nothing ng the measure is believed to carry broad authority for Pr i ent Hoover to reorganize bureaus aria and cul cut down overlapping wasteful activity While beyond definite estimate the administration hopes to save many millions through this power If It the senates senate's current disposition to make haste can hold through the economy bill some members believe adjournment before the Republican national convention June 14 still is possible But the chance is 15 a thin one onen in n view of the certainty that the highly high high- ly controversial unemployment relief relief re- re lief lef is to be considered and much conference con con- ference work with the house will be required to adjust differences on all the financial bills a
