I lOr Dr Frank Cr Cranes Crane's e Daily Editorial I II Alert I By DR FRA PRANK FRANK K CRANE ORANE Alert Is one of the words which we have hae taken from the Italian It means means wide awake It is the opposite of ot mindedness absent I It It Is the sense of ot being alive to ones one's environment and it Is that sense we lose when we are going to sleep I It can best be expressed in English by the words wide awake wake The minded alert are those who know best what is going on around them I Alertness of mind is sought by those who are in executive position who have something to do and whose business It is to deal with the exigencies of occasions Its opposite is sought by the thinkers who deal not so much with that which exists around them at present as with the causes of things We Ve speak therefore of the absent minded absent minded professor whose mind is far away In experiments that have but an indirect bearing upon the I present and of ot the witted nimble-witted street arab whose business It is to dodge taxicabs and seek a precarious living in the come and go of ot the street For those who would qualify themselves therefore for executive positions alert mindedness is to be sought while the rumInative and virtues are more to be be desired by those whose busIness busness It Isto Isto is isto to think Y f Alert Alert- Alert l Is on the surface Its value alue therefore depends upon the amount of thinking th that t has gone before beCore It H.
