Show SPRINGVILLE BOASTS A CIVIC ORCHESTRA Springville has made another stride forward in cultural development with the organization of a civic orchestra, which is destined, if present progress continues, to bring honor and fame to a city already known as the Art City of the West. Not only does such a project afford an opportunity and encourage talented music students to continue their study, but it gives the general public a chance to hear good music presented by home talent. The possibilities of such an organization is probably not realized by most of us, but it could be the means of I stimulating interest to produce a great musician. Not only are Springville musicians taking advantage of orchestra study, but a number of young people from nearby near-by communities have enrolled for the benefits gained there-by there-by The orchestra has been fortunate in securing competent compe-tent leadership in the person of John G. Hilgendorff of Provo, who puts in many extra hours to bring this enthusiastic enthusias-tic group of musicians to the forefront. Rehearsals are held weekly on Thursday and Mr. Hilgendorff makes the trip from Provo and return, spending valuable time for the adT vancement of this organization. The community should show their appreciation for this fine leader, as well as to the members of the orchestra, who individually give their talents at many other programs, by attending their first community concert next Wednesday, January 7. Ind ividually or as a group, these students are a credit to the city and through their efforts Springville may become known for her music as well as her art. |
