A committee consisting of Warren Beardall, chairman; Rex Sutherland, first vice-chairman, and Mrs. Eileen Bird, second vice-chairman, vice-chairman, and LaRell Johnson, honorary officer, organized the first group of players and rehearsals rehears-als begun under direction of Harmon Har-mon Hatch. Due to unsurmountable difficulties difficul-ties at the time, activities of the group, however, were temporarily discontinued. Then in the spring of 1947 the same committee, with exception of Warren Beardall, who resigned, again met and laid plans for reorganizing. re-organizing. All musicians interested inter-ested were notified, and J. G. Hilgendorff Hil-gendorff of Provo was secured as conductor. Rehearsals began September Sep-tember 17, 1947, and have been held each Thursday. Members paid a fee of one dollar upon enrolling en-rolling in the group and one dollar each month to defray expenses. The members have worked diligently dili-gently preparing their first concert con-cert which will be proof to townspeople towns-people who attend that the organization organ-ization is to become a permanent cultural asset to this community. |
