Drive Progresses Throughout City Scouts Making House-to-House Drive In Fifth Ward District; Complete Report On Drive To Be Made Soon A report Wednesday from various Red Cross committee chairmen chair-men indicated that the drive in this city is progressing well, although a definite check of the amount collected could not be determined for a few days. In the Fifth ward district, Mrs. Paul Thorn reports that a house-to-house canvass is being made for Red Cross contributions by the Senior Scouts, and these boys are doing an exceptionally fine job. In making the collections, the Scouts are also fulfilling a Scout civic service requirement in addition addi-tion to rendering their assistance in a very important project. Contacts in the business districts are to be completed within the next few days, and the city is expected to be completely can-vased can-vased within a short time. Inasmuch as greater funds are needed this year to carry on the vitally important work of the Red Cross it is the patriotic duty of all to do their best to make the local drive a success. Just one phase of Red Cross work and how it functions at present pres-ent in our own community is shown in the report submitted Wednesday Wednes-day by Mrs. Inez Chader Home Service chairman. A total of fifty-one cases have been handled by this department during the past two months,, with thirty-two of these in the Army; seventeen in the Navy, and two ex-service men. Financial assistance amounting to $50.50 was given during the period. The cases handled included one Army, on inquiries and messages; one Army and one Navy case; assistance as-sistance with government benefits; bene-fits; three Army and five Navy, consultation and guidance; one Army and two Navy, furlough investigation. |
