Show Armed Forces Pfc. Verl Weight Goes Back To Hospital Pfc. Verl Weight returned Fri- day to the Fitzsimons General hospital at Denver, Colo., after spending a 30-day furlough here and in California. He and sister, Darlene, spent two weeks in Mo-desta Mo-desta and Marysville, Calif., where they visited an uncle and aunt. Lt. Floyd Anderson Home On Furlough Lt. Floyd Anderson, son of Mrs. Ellen Anderson, arrived home on Monday from Alberquerque, N. M., for a few days' furlough. He expects ex-pects to go overseas soon. Kenneth Boyer Visits Relatives Here On leave from his naval station at Hollister, Calif., Kenneth Boyer, Boy-er, AMM 3c, visited his grandparents, grandpar-ents, Mr. and Mrs. Myron Boyer, in Springville and then went on to McGrath, Alberta, Canada, to visit vis-it his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Har-lan Boyer. Cpl. Lloyd Barker On Leave Here Cpl. Lloyd Barker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hyrum Barker, is spending spend-ing a 16-day leave here with his parents and other relatives. He has been stationed at Colorado Springs, Colo., and is to go from here to Nebraska. Lt. J. W. Rasband Awarded Bronze Star With the 96th Division On Okinawa Oki-nawa July 7 First Lieutenant Jay W. Rasband, whose wife is the former Merle Madsen, has been awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious meri-torious achievement on Okinawa. In making the award, Major . General J. L. Bradley, commanding command-ing the 96th Division, cited Lt. Rasband for being responsible for the smooth operation and successful success-ful firing of his 18mm mortar platoon plat-oon even though they were under constant and intense Japanese mortar mor-tar and artillery fire. His accomplishments accom-plishments were of great importance import-ance in repulsing three severe enemy ene-my counter attacks aimed at dislodging dis-lodging his men from strategic and hard-gained ground. Lt. Rasband is a member of the 31st Infantry Regiment. A veteran veter-an of the Leyte campaign, he also wear the Combat Infantryman's Badge. A graduate of the ITena-ger's ITena-ger's Business College in Salt Lake City, he was employed by the Southern Sou-thern Pacific Division Engineers prior to his entering the Army. Local Soldier Awarded Badge Camp Wolters, Tex. Pvt. Marvin Mar-vin L. Naylor of Springville, Ut., now stationed at this Infantry Replacement Re-placement Training Center, has been awarded the Expert Infantryman's Infan-tryman's Badge after succcsHfully completing a series of rigid tests and courses for eligibility. Included in the tests are: scouting scout-ing and patrolling, field sanitation and first aid, bayonet assault, personal per-sonal appearance, and militry discipline dis-cipline and courtesy. Before these tests may be taken, the Infantryman Infantry-man must have qualified with required re-quired weapons, complete a forced march of four hours' duration, go through infiltration courses, and complete grenade asault training. CONVALESCING Mrs. J. M. Sumsion is convalescing convales-cing from a recent major operation opera-tion which she underwent at the L. D. S. hospital, Salt Lake City. |
