Personal News Notes Miss Joyce Whiting, daughter of Bishop and Mrs. Oscar Whiting Whit-ing of Mapleton has been elected secretary of the Junior class for 1946-47 in one of the largest class elections ever held in the history of he Brigham Young university. Miss Whiting is majoring in English. Eng-lish. Miss Lois Hanson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred P. Hanson of Springviiie, was elected vice-president of the Mack club for 1946-47 at Brigham Young university, it was announced today. A graduate gradu-ate of Springviiie high school in 1943, Miss Hanson is a junior at the university and is majoring in Dramatic Art. m v m Mr. and Mrs. Herbert W. Smith of Ogden, former residents of Springviiie, spent Memorial Day and Friday with relatives here. Orville L. Evans, who was recently re-cently given his discharge from the army, spent several days with his sister, Mrs. George Roylance and family, in the city. He re- turned the past week to Los Angeles, An-geles, Calif., where he is employed. Mr. and Mrs. Abe Ullock have returned to Long Beach, Cal., after spending a few days here visiting relatives and friends. They plan to make their home in California for the present. Mrs. Reva Weinke of San Francisco, Fran-cisco, Calif., is visiting at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Ollerton. Mr. and Mrs. Amasa Rowland and daughter, Mary Louise, are leaving today to spend a few days with their son, Ted Rowland and family at Pocatello, Idaho. m Mr. and MrsJ George Simkins spent last weekend at Beaver with relatives and friends. They were accompanied home "by Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence White who are visiting here. Miss Lela Bird of Beverly Hills, Calif., spent the past week visiting visit-ing relatives and friends here and in Mapleton. Mr. and Mrs. Amasa Rowland have received word of the serious illness of their brother-in-law, Jordan Jor-dan Pederson in Chicago, 111. He is the husband of the former Louise Lou-ise Crandall. Don Bird and his English bride, the former Miss Barbara McKen-zie- of Essex, arrived from' New York Saturday for an indefinite visit with Mr. Bird's mother, Mrs. Myrtle Bird, and other relatives and friends here. Don went to New York to meet his wife whom he married while stationed in the Army Air Corps in England, some months ago. Mrs. .Gertrude Powell of Los Angeles, Calif., has been visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Lyall and also in Navoo, 111., She left Sunday for her home in California. Cali-fornia. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Franks were called to Great Falls, Mont., last week by the death of a relative. rela-tive. Mr. Franks has returned home and Mrs. Franks remained for a longer visit. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Jolley have returned re-turned to Springviiie - to make their home after spending the last few months at Butte, Mont. Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Weight, in company with Mr. and Mrs. Don Stevens of Layton, spent a few days of last week touring the canyons can-yons in southern Utah. Mrs. L. M. Allred of Belle, Cal., is spending ten days here with her sister, Mrs. Art Case, and family and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Snelson of Los Angeles, Calif., visited in Springviiie for several days, including in-cluding Memorial Day. On Sunday, Sun-day, his sister, Mrs. G. W. Friel, entertained at a family dinner in their honors, sixteen family members mem-bers being present. Mrs. Ina M. Pitchcer and daughter daugh-ter Lee Ann, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, are spending a month with Mrs. Pitcher's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul C. Miner, and other oth-er relatives and friends. Mrs. A. C. Chader and daughter daugh-ter June returned the past week from Nebraska where they visited visit-ed relatives and attended the wedding wed-ding of their daughter and sister, Bernice. ' Mrs. Pearl Sumsion left Tuesday Tues-day to spend three weeks at Gill-roy, Gill-roy, Calif., with Mr. , and Mrs. Darrell Gardner. Mr. and Mrs. Gardner have a new baby daughter, daugh-ter, born Sunday, June 2. She is the former Naomi Sumsion. Mr. and Mrs. Newell Weight and family of Parowan, are visiting visit-ing his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph B. Weight, and other relatives rela-tives in the city. Major and Mrs. Warwick Pal-freyman Pal-freyman and sons came from Denver, Den-ver, Colo., the past week to visit Springviiie relatives and friends. Mrs. Thales Brown and two children chil-dren of Parowan are spending six weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Wiscombe, at Mapleton. Maple-ton. Mrs. Belle Childs and son Fred, Mrs. A. W. Cherrington and Mrs. J. O. Reynolds spent Monday and Tuesday with another sister, Mrs. C. G. Sanford, and family at Paul, ! Idaho. The occasion was Mrs. Sanford's birthday. I |
