Show COMMENTS j By Guy Stevens The hot American League pennant pen-nant chase has Cleveland fans talking baseball around the clock. The crowds have been so great that many have stayed away figuring it would be useless to try and get a seat. Credit for all this excitement goes to Boss Bill Veeck who has 29 people working in his public relations department just to keep things humming. They've come up with all sorts of ideas, including roving bands and fireworks. It's showmanship and nothing pays off so well these days. Baseball will never see another player as great and colorful as Babe Ruth. There will be other great players, of course, but none will have, the "it" that the Babe had. He'll go down in baseball history as the greatest player of all time, greater than Charlie Rad-bourne, Rad-bourne, Napoleon Lajoie, Ty Cobb, Tris Speaker, Hans . Wagner and others who won fame on the diamond. He may be gone but his name will be a baseball topic for years to come and his many records will be out there for youngsters to shoot at each year. |
