Show SCHOOL LUNCHES REACH HIGH FIGURE IN '47-'48 Almost 7,000,000 school lunches were served to Utah school children chil-dren during the 1947-48 year, Rodney Rod-ney A. Ashby, State director of the school lunch program, disclosed dis-closed Friday. i Average cost of lunches to the student ranges from 10c to 24c, but this year likely will cost an average of 16c. Total cost of lunches to sponsors last year was 26 V2. Cost of milk alone amounted to $319,000 last year. By law, Class A lunches must include ' a half-pint half-pint of milk, half to twcthirds cup of fruit and vegetables, two slices of bread or muffins, two ounces of protein as egg, fish or meat, and butter. Surveys have shown that city children walk or are transported a long distance to school, and should have hot lunches, said Mr. Ashby. |
