Show WILL RUSSIA FIGHT JAPAN? One of the questions that Americans Amer-icans discuss concerns the possibility possi-bility of Russia joining the United States and Great Britain in the war against Japan. While some commentators and columnists insist that the Big 3 will make plans for Soviet participation partic-ipation in the Far Eastern war, there have been hints from Anglo-American Anglo-American officials that nothing of the sort is to be expected. There is no way to form any intelligent in-telligent opinion as to the possibility possi-bility of Russia's intervention in the war against Japan. If the Soviet is willing to make war on our Asiatic enemy, it would he extremely ex-tremely foolish to say so now. Obviously, Ob-viously, if the Soviet has no such intention, it is in the interest of Russia to keep the secret. The same can be said of the comment of Allied officials. If Mr. Hopkins, or Mr. Law, had any idea that an agreement could be reached with the Soviet, under which the Russians will fight Japan, Jap-an, it would be foolish for them I to reveal any inkling of what the future holds. Only columnists and commentators commenta-tors can risk pot-shot predictions and most of them, we suspect, are peddling imaginary fiction. |
