Show Date Set For Red Cross Drive in Springville Quota To Be Raised Is $950 More Than Last Year; Drive To Get Underway February 29, and March 4, Throughout City A quota of $8,250.00 has been set for Springville in the 1945 war fund campaign of the American Red Cross, Kay Johnson, drive chairman, announced today. This is $950.00 more than the quota of last year. 1 More money is needed this year than ever before, due to the increased in-creased number of men in the armed forces overseas and the increase in-crease in the number of American boys who are prisoners of the enemy. en-emy. A large percentage of Uie contributions will be used in the sixty-two war front areas where American forces are fighting. The remainder will be used to continue home-front services. There is hardly a family whose son or daughter, husband or father, fath-er, has not had the trials of war lessened by contact with the Red Cross or through one or more of the thirty-five services it provides. "Everyone must remember that this is their Red Cross," said Mr. Johnson. Tentative plans have been made to appoint a sub-chairman for each ward to take care of the house-to-house canvass, with members of the Junior Chamber of Commerce to contact the business houses. Business men will be contacted the week of Feb. 29th and the residential res-idential canvass will start on March 4th. While Mapleton and Thistle are included in the Springville district, dis-trict, Mapleton has set their own drive campaign under the direction direc-tion of Ray Scovil with a quota of $1,000.00. The drive in Thistle will be ably headed by Mrs. Wm. L. Hansen. A meeting of sub-chairmen and workers will be held in the Seminary Semi-nary building at 8 p.' m., Friday, Feb. 23, to receive material and final instructions for the drive. Bob Bullock, county drive chairman, chair-man, and Alvin B. Sheppard, Chapter secretary, will be speakers speak-ers at this meeting. Mr. Bullock has been county drive chairman for the past three years, and Mr. Sheppard was Field Director for the Red Cross in the South Pacific before accepting the position of Chapter secretary last September. |
