Show Hardy oAverett Honored On 85th Birthday Hardy Averett, well known pio-' pio-' neer resident of this city, was surprised sur-prised at his home Tuesday evening eve-ning with a party given to celebrate cele-brate the occasion of his eighty-fifth eighty-fifth birthday. Approximately 45 relatives and friends were in attendance and enjoyed en-joyed the evening with social conversation con-versation and a nicely arranged lunch. Mr. Averett was born in Spring-ville Spring-ville and has always lived here. He began in very early years freighting freight-ing supplies to pioneer families. and later engaged in hauling logs for sawmills in this vicinity. He is especially active for his years and keeps physically fit by taking a daily walk to town and performing chores about home. Since the death of his wife, Elizabeth Eliza-beth Parry Averett, whom he married in October, 1884, he has made his home with a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Elva Averett. Mrs. Averett died about five years ago. Mr. Averett has followed the occupations oc-cupations of farming and stock-raising stock-raising and has also done much carpenter work. He retired about nine years ago. He is an enthusiastic enthusias-tic hunter and for many years has not missed a hunting season. He has a son, Tom Averett, and a daughter, Mrs. Will Child, both of Springville. There are also 14 grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren. great-grandchildren. A GROUP OF FRIENDS ENJOYED A PARTY on New Year's eve, assembling at the Chicken Roost for dinner and later at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Clyde for games, and the advent of the new year. Attending the no-hostess affair were: Mr. and Mrs. E. V. Crandall, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Clyde, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Clvde. Mr. and Mrs. H. M Weight, Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Mendenhall, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ken-neth Condie, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Eggertsen, Dr. and Mrs. George A. Anderson,, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Baxter, Bax-ter, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Bird, and Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Eddington. MRS. E. V. CRANDALL WAS HAPPILY SURPRISED on the occasion of her birthday Sunday, when her family, most of whom came from out of town, celebrated cele-brated with her at luncheon and a social afternoon. Those attending were: Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Hansen, Mr. and Mrs. Bernell Hansen and family, Grover Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Ford Thorpe and daughter, Doranna, all of Spanish Fork, Mr. and Mrs. William Hansen of Payson, and Mr. and Mrs. Neill Whiting, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Harward and little daughter, Carma, and Elaine Crandall of Salt Lake City, and other immediate family members. MR. AND MRS. L. L. BAKER GAVE A PARTY on New Year's eve for a number of friends. A delicious supper was served at small tables and was preceded pre-ceded with progressive games. Guests at the party included Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Condie, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Groesbeck, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Friel, Mr. and Mrs. John T. Burt, Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Packard, and Mr. and Mrs. E. V. Boorman. MR. AND MRS. LEON HARRISON ENTERTAINED on New Year's eve at a party at their home. The group enjoyed a delicious luncheon and cards. Attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Finley, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. George Crandall, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Grant, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Pennington, the hostess and host.
