Show i FIGHTING FOR DEMOCRACY The dedication of the birthplace birth-place of Woodrow Wilson as a national na-tional shrine ought to remind Americans Am-ericans of the leadership of this great war president whose pathetic attempt to "make the world safe for democracy" was sabotaged by his own people, who repudiated him and made light of his slogan. With the threat that the Axis powers, led by dictators, may seize control of the world, and with the knowledge of their attempts to destroy de-stroy freedom' and ilberty, the American Am-erican people are now beginning to understand what President Wilson had in mind when he sounded the slogan that has been derided by many Americans. It was highly fitting that President Presi-dent Roosevelt, who served as assistant as-sistant secretary of the navy under President Wilson, and now leads the United States as it faces the grave peril of today, should take part in the ceremony and applaud Wilson's "judgment and faith." Mr. Roosevelt took advantage of the occasion to warn the world that the American people had fought before and were "ever ready to fight again" for the existence ex-istence of "democracy in the world." |
