Show INSURANCE FOR ATHLETES NOW ADOPTED After a five-year struggle on the part of enthusiastic high school sport fans for the adoption of athletic insurance for hign school athletes, the new athletic council successor to the old board of control officially authorized the adoption at a meeting of the council last week. Kenneth E. Weight, president of the state athletic council, will select a committee to aid him in outlining the system to be adopted. H. R. Adams was named vice-president and Dave R. Mitchell was retained re-tained as secretary at the meeting. Other business transacted during the meeting saw the council increase in-crease expense allowances for teams in the state high school basketball bas-ketball tourney from 12 to, 15 cents per mile per team. Golf and softball were officially added to the high school sports program for Utah. Dates for the 1941-42 schedule as approved by the athletic council are as follows: fol-lows: Football B. semifinals on November No-vember 14 and A semifinals on November No-vember 15. Finals in the B division will be held on November 21 and in the A group on November 22. Six-man finals will be held on either November 14 or 15". Basketball State tourney on March 18, 19, 20 and 21 at the University of Utah fieldhouse in Salt Lake City. All regional races must be completed by March 7. Swimming and wrestling State finals slated one week before the annual basketball tournament. Track Relay carnival, April 18; state meet, May 9. Golf and baseball Finals on May 15 or 16. Tennis Finals, May 9. Softball Finals on May 15 or 16. |
