Show Utah's Anglers Await Season's Opening On Sunday, June 14 Fishermen Warned Not To Fish In Restricted Areas; Open Time Set For 6 o'Clock A. M. Anglers throughout the state will return to their favorite haunts as the Utah fishing season opens next Sunday, June 14, at 6 a. m., mountain war time. Fish- ermen will have to be on the alert this year not only to protect themselves them-selves from being arrested, but from probably being shot by armed arm-ed guards stationed at various reservoirs. M. J. Madsen, assistant director of fisheries management of the Utah fish and game department, said that all reservoirs in the state which have been designated as military areas are being protected and will be marked on natural landmarks above and below dams with appropriate signs and markers. mark-ers. Conspicuous signs will be used, and buoys will be placed in the water to designate where sportsmen sports-men can enter and where they are prohibited. In addition, armed guards will be placed at various reservoirs to prevent anyone from passing the marked limits. The distance of the prohibited area varies with natural conditions surrounding the reservoirs and with requests which were made by the reservoir owners and defense officials. Madsen reports that streams have nearly ended their spring run-off and are rapidly coming into good fishing conditions. His department is planting fish all through the state as rapidly as possible at the present time. At the same time, eggs are being taken tak-en from wild fish for hatching in state-owned hatcheries and will be redistributed later throughout the entire state. Between 5,000 and 6,000 native trout are being held in the Scho-field Scho-field trap which will produce around 4,000,000 eggs. More fish will enter this trap if the warm, clear weather continues. The Fishlake egg take is well over the 1,000,000 mark to date. Following is a list of those reservoirs reser-voirs on which restricted areas are marked: Rocky Ford reservoir, Hyrum reclamation dam, Schofield reservoir, reser-voir, Panguifch lake, Mona reservoir, reser-voir, Sevier bridge reservoir, Gunnison Gun-nison bend reservoir, Delta-Mill-ville reservoir, East canyon reservoir, reser-voir, Otter Creek reservoir, Piute reservoir, Gunnison reservoir, the Johnson Valley reservoir, Fishlake, Echo reservoir, Deer Creek reservoir, reser-voir, Strawberry reservoir, and Pine View reservoir. Sports are requested by Madsen to check all areas in which they plan to fish before going on their fishing trips. |
