Show Army Officials Inspect Local Unit Army Dignitaries and Civic Group Representatives Inspect Proposed Shooting Site East of Town Colonel Graham of Berkeley, Calif., and Captain Louis Prentiss of Reno, Nev., were in Springville Tuesday evening and Wednesday, to make an inspec- tion of the local national guard unit and to discuss other important impor-tant items. Tuesday evening, Col. Graham talked to unit members on the status of the unit and the favored position of the national guardsmen in case of mobilization. Captain Prentiss expressed satisfaction sa-tisfaction in the year's work and stated that 100 per cent attendance atten-dance of unit members was expected expect-ed at the year's training season at Centralia. On Wednesday morning, Captain Cap-tain Prentiss, with C. G. Salisbury, Salis-bury, representing the chamber of commerce, George Wright, the American Legion, Captain J. Y. Bearnson of the local guard unit, and Lieutenant E. S. Groesbeck, inspected a prospective rifle range east of town, just north of the city power station and reservoir. Captain Prentiss approved the proposed site and now, according to unit officers, data must be compiled to secure government approval of the project. If the range is secured, It will be under the supervision of the national guard unit although the American Legion and other qualified civilian groups will have access to the site. The proposed new site should be of especial interest and furnish impetus to those who desire to qualify for rifle marksmanship and possible competition at Camp Perry, Ohio. |
