Show FARMERS SIGN 1 EARLY FOR 1942 BEET CROP Capacity Operations At Each Factory Is Goal Set By Agriculture Department The farmers of Utah county will give all-out support to the accelerated acceler-ated 1942 sugar beet production program, it is indicated by the early sign-up for beet planting. W. J. O'Bryant, district manager man-ager of the Utah-Idaho sugar company, revealed this week that 2500 acres of beets for 1942 have been contracted in the county, with 500 acres of the amount being be-ing contracted by new growers. Two thousand acres are from growers who grew' but 1600 acres last year, maKing a total increase of about 55 per cent over that of last year. In order to meet the goal set by the U." S. department of agriculture agri-culture that each factory be operated oper-ated to capacity, there should be a total of approximately . 13,000 acres for the Spanish Fork factory, fac-tory, which includes all of Utah county and some of Juab and Millard Mill-ard counties. Because of the early contract the sign-up is far ahead of last year and the growers will be able to get their teets in much earlier this year than last, Mr.. O'Bryant said. There are no restrictions on planting. If this territory is to reestablish re-establish itself as an important beet center, it is important that high performance be secured now while the quotas are removed because be-cause future allotments will be based on history of the area and the individual power, Mr. O'Bryant pointed out. L. G. Sumsion, president of the Utah County Beet Growers association, asso-ciation, said that under the 1942 contract farmers will be getting the best price for beets since the last war. The contract is better than in surrounding states, he added. |
