National headquarters said that the war department has given assurances as-surances that in cases where the immediate induction would cause undue hardship to the registrant he will be given an immediate furlough fur-lough to adjust his civilian affairs. af-fairs. Although the final physical ex amination by the army will con- tinue to be the most thorough one given to registrants, the local boards will continue to give "screening" examinations, rejecting reject-ing the obviously physically unfit men. Under the new procedure, registrants regis-trants will have the same rights of appeal and right of personal appearance before their local boards as they do at present. Instead of receiving the notice to report for physical examination by the armed forces as they do now, the registrants will be given a notice of induction, national headquarters said. Under this new procedure, registrants reg-istrants will have two physical examinations, the first one known as the "screening" test to be given giv-en by the local examining physician, phy-sician, and the second one at a later date to be given by the regular regu-lar army examining board. Strict compliance of all notices sent to registrants to take either of these examinations is urged as failure to comply with notices is considered a violation of selective service regulations and subjects one guilty guil-ty of violation to the heavy penalties pen-alties imposed in the selective service ser-vice law. |
