Show Couple Observe 55th Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. James Straw of this city observed their fifty-sixth wedding anniversary on Saturday, January 27, at their home on North Main Street. They were married on January 27, 1884, at Provo and have lived in their present home nearly fifty years. Mr. Straw was born in Springville, Spring-ville, January 27, 1863, a son of James and Hannah Hill Straw, early pioneers. He has made his home here always. For about 25 years, he followed railroad construction con-struction work, 'doing considerable consider-able sub-contracting work in this and surrounding states. Later he was stationary engineer for the Union Pacific railroad company for 11 years, retiring from this work when he was seventy years old. He is an active member of the church, was at one time in the presidency of the Third Ward Elders' Quorum and at present holds the position of high priest. Mrs. Sarah Whitehead Straw, a daughter of James and Fannie Boyden Whitehead, was born in Salt Lake City, December 16, 1862. She came to Springville at the age of 14 years, and has resided re-sided here since. She is a charter member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Camp Springville and also a member of the Service Star Legion of which she was at one time president. She is an active member of the church. The couple are parents of eight children, four of whom are living: liv-ing: Mrs. Hilda Coffman of Provo; Mrs. Muriel Parks and Mrs. L. D. George of Los Angeles, Calif., and Lee H. Straw of Ogden. They also have four grandchildren. |
