Show FOUR CHANGES MADE IN HOOP RULES Rule Changes Should Give Players More Chance For Rest; Raises Foul Limit The National Basketball Rules Committee made four important rule changes for the 1944-45 basketball bas-ketball campaign. The changes include an increase in the number of personal fouls allowed, approval approv-al of unlimited substitutions, the right of officials to suspend play and limitation of the privileges of defensive players. The changes: 1 Personal foul limit increased from four to five. 2 Unlimited substitution allowed, instead of player being permitted in game only three times. 3 The officials are given authority to suspend play at any time in case of an in-ury. in-ury. Under present rules time cannot be called by injured player's play-er's side unless it controls ball, or automatic time out occurs. 4 Defensive players forbidden to touch ball on its downward flight toward basket on a try for goal, the penalty being award of the goal. The penalty shall not apply' if the shot is obviously short of the basket. This rule supercedes the present one forbidding "goal tenders" touching the basket or reaching above it to deflect shots. |
