Show FARM WAGES LOW COMPARED TO INDUSTRIAL LABOR When 1942 began, farm wages were at their highest level since April, 1930, according to a report of the department of agriculture. For those who are "convinced" that there is no farm problem, we call attention to the fact that farm wages averaged $37.08 per month, with board, and $47.77 without board. This is approximately the wages that a good workman in industry receives in one week. In view of the fact that more than one-fourth of the population of this country resides on the farms of the nation, this is important. Farm workers are receiving approximately ap-proximately one-fourh as much for their labor as the men and women who leave the farm for industrial employment. Certainly, few Americans can be satisfied with an economic condition condi-tion which compels approximately one-fourth of our population and more than one-fourth of our child- . ren to get along on an income that is approximately one-fourth of that enjoyed by industrial workers. |
