Kable, past president of the American Am-erican Society of Agricultural Engineers. En-gineers. He adds that "we need food not only for ourselves butj also for our armed forces and for our allies." I Mr. Kable recognizes the difficulties diffi-culties that farmers face through a shrinking of their labor supply and says that "the only way to get around this labor shortage is with the aid of machinery." Everyone is familiar with the labor la-bor saving of a milking machine, which can do the work of four or five men, but there are many farm ing operations which do not read-' ily respond to the use of machinery machin-ery to assist in the production of crops. This brings us to the observation observa-tion that the drastic steel shortage short-age will reduce the amount of farm machinery and parts available. avail-able. Consequently, the farmer should turn mechanic in order to make machines now on hand last as long as possible. Too often one sees valuable farm machinery ne-I ne-I glected. This is a loss of money during a war emergency. While nothing definite has been officially announced, we understand under-stand that there is some prospect pros-pect that the government will1 devise de-vise a plan to make loans to farmers farm-ers to assist them in the purchase of farm machinery.
