Show Springville Travels To Spanish Fork For First League Tilt Red Devils And Spanish Fork Elevens Line Up For First League Grid Game Friday At 2:30; Close Game Expected Springville Red Devils will open league play Friday Fri-day afternoon at 2:30 on the Spanish Fork gridiron. Both clubs will be playing their first league game. Although Red Devil stock has jumped considerably as a result of their win over South Summit last Friday, Coach Del Moine Christen-sen Christen-sen is taking every precaution to keep over-confidence from springing spring-ing up among his players. Coach Christensen has been dishing out some special overtime practice all week to prepare his club for the opening battle. Mentor Christensen will probably proba-bly use the same line-up that started start-ed in the South Summit tilt, with Metcalf and Bird at the end positions, posi-tions, Taylor and A. Fullmer, tackles; tac-kles; Haymond and Jenkins, as guards,' and Clyde, center. With the return of big Ray Miller and Don Chavis to bolster the back-field, back-field, Christensen Will probably give the starting duties to Miller, Chavis or Cranmer, Clements and Captain Owen Fullmer. Jensen and Wardle will also be counted on for backfield duties as well as Sophomore flash, Rulon Francis. Friday's game should be a close and interesting game. Spanish Fork lost its game last week to Lehi, in a close contest. Other Friday Grid games in Region Re-gion Three: Lehi at Pay son; American Amer-ican Fork at Pleasant Grove; B. Y. High at Lincoln. Devils Tip Hamas ... A much-improved Red Devil eleven turned back the visiting South Summit eleven here last Friday, 19-13. Both clubs fought a mid-field battle during the first quarter with neither team scoring. Francis, substitute halfback, started a sustained sus-tained drive that brought the Red Devils within pay territory where Owen Fullmer crossed the goal for the first score. Chavis drop kicked the extra point. South Summit came back and through long-end runs and power plays, crossed the Red Devil goal to score. The extra point was good and the score was tied at 7 all. With only a few minutes left to play in the first half, Fullmer completed a beautiful beauti-ful pass to Bird, who scampered some 50 yards for the second score of the locals. Springville scored their last touchdown after recovering a South Summit fumble on their own 35-yard line with Chavis crossing the goal line.
