Show National Newspaper Week Being Observed National Newspaper Week is being observed here, beginning October 1 and ending October 8, the time being proclaimed by the President of the United 'States. With the slogan, "A Free Press and A Free People . . . An Unbeatable Un-beatable Team," this year's observance obser-vance of National Newspaper Week will stress the newspaper's contribution to the war effort on the home front. During the week, special emphasis empha-sis will be made of the part played by newspapers in aiding the government gov-ernment in putting over the many drives, such as war bonds, Red Cross, Victory Gardens, and in giving giv-ing the public ' vital information dealing with the rationing and other oth-er OPA regulations. At a time when the Freedoms which Americans have been inclined in-clined to take for granted, have become an issue of world conflict, newspaper publishers of America are dedicating their National Newspaper Week observances to spotlighting the cornerstone of all American Freedoms t h e Free Press. The Free Press is a vital rieht of the American people and Newspaper Week is planned this year to help the newspapers discharge dis-charge their patriotic obligation of keeping the people aware of what Pree Freedom means to their liberty. The primary objective of National Na-tional Newspaper Week is the creation cre-ation of a greater understanding and appreciation of the part which a Free Press plays in maintaining our democracy. |
