Show CITIZENS TOLD NO DANGER OF ROAD CHANGE Road Commissioners Comment On Proposed New Road During Short Visit Monday Townspeople were assured there was no immediate danger of a new U. S. highway being constructed from Spanish Fork to Provo through the west limits of Springville, Spring-ville, when they contacted John R. Evans of the state road commission, commis-sion, on tne subject during his visit at the contractors' meet Monday night. Springville people have expressed considerable disfavor for the proposed pro-posed project because of the affects af-fects such a change would have on business as a whole in this city. With such a change, Springville would be completely ignored so far as tourist trade on the highway was concerned, is the opinion of townspeople. An appeal to the local Chamber of Commerce to investigate such a proposal has also resulted in an assurance to that group by county officials and road commissioners that construction of such a highway high-way is not being considered. Mayor John E. Booth of Spanish Fork, according to reports, recent- ly made application for the highway high-way with the argument that it would place Spanish Fork within five miles of the new steel development devel-opment project and Provo, resulting result-ing in considerable advantage to Spanish Fork in housing the influx of workmen expected in the vicinity vicin-ity with the steel expansion program. pro-gram. . |
