There may ho differences of opinion as to the contents of Esquire, Es-quire, the somewhat robust magazine of men, but there should not he. much argument over the danger to a free press when the Post Office Department can bar publications from the mail. The fact that the law has permitted the department to possess such power for many years does not make the law perfect. per-fect. Tlte truth of the matter is that in the past the law has been permitted to rest quietly except upon very unusual circumstances. circum-stances. It may be that Mr. Frank C. Walker, Postmaster General, is eminently fitted to determine what the people of the country shall read, or look at. Nevertheless, we doubt it. There should be some other authority to hear and determine such questions when raised by postal officials. |
