Show KIWANIANS TO HEAR LEGION SPEECH WINNERS Speeches on "Americanism" awarded first places in the recent American Legion sponsored oratorical ora-torical contest will be given by-Reed by-Reed Brockbank, Evan Wimber, and LaRhea Nielson at the regular regu-lar weekly meeting of Kiwanis tonight. Reed's speech won first place in the state, making him eligible to compete in the district contest held at San Francisco. The meeting meet-ing is under the direction of H. T. Reynolds, who will act as toast-master. toast-master. Last week, as the culmination of an intensive membership campaign, cam-paign, members of the Springville Chamber of Commerce joined with the Kiwanis club at a banquet and program, with E. A. Strong acting as toastmaster. Guest speakers during the evening eve-ning were Chairman W. D. Hammond Ham-mond of the state road commission; commis-sion; Utah County Commissioners Sylvan Clark of Lehi and J. R. Murdock of Provo, and President W. W. Clyde of the Kiwanis club. Speakers spoke of the importance impor-tance of good roads and stated that improvements should be made on the Hobble Creek canyon can-yon road east to the forest line, the Springville-Mapleton road, the road from Springville south to Palmyra, and the south and north, extremities of -Springville Main street. G. Lowry Anderson, chairman of the Chamber of Commerce membership drive, also spoke briefly on the success of the drive. |
