Show Springville Wins League Opener From Oscar Carlson's Home Run Spree Spells Defeat For Kolob Girls In a hotly-contested battle of the Provo Recreational league, ! played Monday night at Timp park, Springville pounded out a 9-6 victory over the fast Oscar Carlson team. After trailing 2-5 at the beginning begin-ning of the sixth inning, Ardene Van Leuvan got a three-bagger and then coasted home on a beautiful beau-tiful home run by George Bird. N. Jensen brought in two runs with a single. Baxter held the losers to four hits. Bird, with his homer and a double in four trips to the plate, led the hitting column. Other league game results: Cannon-Ashton 11, General Shop 2; Super Heaters 7, Columbia Steel 6. Springville will play here Monday, Mon-day, May 2 7, at 7:30, against the Cannon-Ashton club. In the girls' circuit, Kolob Lumber Lum-ber lost a home-run fracas to Dupler Fur Monday night at Salt Lake. A total of five home runs were made in the game, with Dupler's getting four of the five. The score read 4 to 1. The Kolob girls will play Lucky 13 at the Salt Lake City park Friday, Fri-day, May 2 3. |
