Show WARNING GIVEN CONCERNING FIRE HAZARDS The local fire department was called to extinguish a blaze at the Elbert Johnson home on 72 North Second East street Friday. The fire was believed to have started from a defective flue and only slight damage resulted. In commenting on the danger of fires, Hastings Smith, chief of the local department, this week is issuing is-suing a warning to property owners own-ers to take extra ' precaution against fires. He states that too often flues are cleaned out by burning material, a practice which is dangerous if there should happen hap-pen to be a leak in the flue or pipe to let sparks into the attic or the burning material on the roof could catch fire to shingles. He also asks townspeople to watch fires made to burn dry leaves and rubbish. He also states that firemen will assist anyone with problems concerning con-cerning fire hazards and will cooperate co-operate in anyway possible to keep the loss by fire at a minimum. Chief Smith also reminded citizens citi-zens that one of the most effective means by which one might help the war effort is to take precaution precau-tion to see that there is no property prop-erty loss by fire. |
