Show Winter Fishing Information Given Fishermen A growing interest in winter fishing is evident again this year, according to spokesmen for the Utah Department of Fish and Game. They note the many questions ques-tions about this sport coming to department offices and field men alike. Most of the questions recently have been concerned with fishing through the ice on Utah Lake. The field reports show that a few parties of anglers have had fair success taking perch and catfish by this method. The following information is listed in answer to the most frequently fre-quently asked questions regarding winter fishing. Fishing through the ice is per-missable per-missable on any water open to year around angling. All legal angling methods must be observed observ-ed including the use of pole and line, legal baits and lures, hours and bag limits. Any fish caught may be kept within legal bag and size limits. The following . waters are open to fishing throughout the year: Utah Lake, Bear Lake (some special regulations apply on this water) ; Bear River from the Utah-Idaho state line to the Great Salt Lake; Colorado River; Cove River; Cutler Reservoir; Duchesne River below confluence with Strawberry River; Green River;. Gunnison Reservoir; Jordan River Little Bear River from Highway 91 to Cutler Reservoir; Logan River below Mendon bridge on the state highway 142; Malad River; Minersville Reservoir; Mona Reservoir; Res-ervoir; Price River below Blue Cut near Helper; Redmon Lake; San Juan River; San Pitch River below bridge south of Moroni; Sevier River below Joseph-Monroe state highway 118 bridge; Surplus Canal; Venice Canal; Wales Reservoir; Res-ervoir; Weber River below Davis-Weber Davis-Weber Canal Company dam in lower Weber Canyon and Yuba Reservoir. Department spokesmen add a note of caution regarding ice fishing. Anglers should be certain the ice is safe before venturing over any water. |
