Show Support Sought For Child Guidance Clinic Utah county child guidance clinic, clin-ic, with state, federal, and school funds pledged, could be in operation opera-tion by the first of the year if strong local support is forthcoming, forthcom-ing, Mrs. Stella Oaks, clinic committee com-mittee chairman, said today. The clinic is believed to be acutely acute-ly needed in Utah County, where several hundred disturbed children are in need of treatment. It would be supported by several sources of funds. Last week, Utah State Health Department announced that 55,000 in matching federal funds could be made available annually to a Utah county child guidance clinic. Earlier, Ear-lier, Provo, Nebo and Alpine school districts each had alloted $500 to the proposed clinic. State funds have been promised on a per fee basis by the juvenile court and the welfare office. Mrs. Oaks said today that every city council in the county has been contacted, and has reacted favorably. favor-ably. One city, Santaquin, already has paid its assessment. The county commission has indicated in-dicated that county funds might be alloted when the 1955 budget is made up this November, if commissioners com-missioners see evidence of public support for the clinic. Since federal and state funds are contingent upon local support, Mrs. Oaks urged individuals and organizations interested in the clinic to write the county commission. commis-sion. She said any group wishing to hear a speaker discuss why the clinic is needed in Utah county, may call or write Mrs. Mark K. Allen, Provo, chairman of the clinic clin-ic speakers bureau. Meanwhile, a professional relations rela-tions subcommittee today was in process of lining up personnel and a headquarters for the proposed clinic. Mrs. Oaks said several offers of-fers of buildings had been received receiv-ed from Provo and SpringvilIe. Patterned after the guidance clinic in Salt Lake City, the Utah clinic would have a full time psychologist, psy-chologist, psychiatric social worker work-er and secretary and a part time psychiatrist. Local clubs will not be asked for financial support, but if they care to make a project of donating such items as a filing cabinet, play therapy ther-apy material or other equipment, it will all help, said Mrs. Oaks. Howard Maycock has been appointed ap-pointed to represent SpringvilIe on the Utah county child guidance clinic board, and townspeople who have questions on the proposal are asked to contact him. |
