Show Citizens Welcome News of New Steel Pipe Plant Citizens of Springville and the entire Utah county area were happy hap-py with the announcement Monday Mon-day by Alden G. Roach, president of both Columbia-Geneva and Consolidated Con-solidated Western, that a steel pipe manufacturing plant would be constructed near the Geneva Steel plant. The plant will produce electric weld pipe used for transmission of natural gas, petroleum, products and water, he stated. i The plant site comprises 117 acres ac-res of land immediately north of the present Geneva works. Construction Con-struction is expected to get underway under-way this fall. The plant proper will cover about 175,000 square feet and will have about five acres under roof. The rest of the 117acre tract of land will be used for storage facilities. Mr. Roach said the advantage of the new Utah location will be its close proximity to U. S. Steel's Geneve works, which is Consolidated Consoli-dated Western's source of steel plates and coils used in the manufacturing man-ufacturing of pipe. Announcement of the new project pro-ject was made Monday in Salt Lake City, at a luncheon meeting to which mayors of Utah county, (Continued on page, Nine) Citizens Welcome News ' Of Steel Pipe Plant (Continued from page 1) the press and business leaders were invited. Mr. Roach further stated that a new anhydrous ammonia plant to utilize Geneva Steel byproducts is "in the serious thinking stage" of U. S. Steel, and that he hoped that within a relatively short time he would be able to stand before the group and tell them the same thing he had told them about the new pipe mill. Operation of the Geneva plant and Ironton has brought prosperity prosper-ity so to speak, to the entire Utah county providing payrolls unequal-ed unequal-ed by any other single industry. Construction of another plant will not only provide additional payroll pay-roll but will be a stimulant to every business which will undoubtedly un-doubtedly be felt throughout the entire county. |
