Show Mystery of Sun Intrigues Man Man continues to be intrigued by the mystery of the sun as a source of energy. Scientists, developing their theories in the light of recent discoveries, believe that the sun's light and heat can be accounted for by the conversion of the sun's mass into energy. They estimate that the process can keep up practically prac-tically indefinitely. The size of the sun's mass can be estimated, even though it loses weight at the rate of four million tons a second, there is enough mass to keep the sun shining for billions of years. One expert estimates esti-mates that the process of the ca-roon ca-roon cycle requires about five million mil-lion years to complete, but that it is so slow that only one per cent of the hydrogen in the sun is transformed trans-formed into helium in a billion years. The technical details are said to involve temperatures, deep in the sun, that reach fifteen to twenty million degrees. Such figures fig-ures are beyond the comprehension of ordinary individuals and about all that we get out of such information infor-mation is renewed respect for the wonder and magnitude of creation.: |
