Show Fourth Ward Relief Society Honors Past Presidents, Commemorates 60th Anniversary at Saturday Social I Past presidents of the Fourth ward Relief Society were honored at a social Saturday afternoon in the Fourth ward Relief Society; hall, which also commemorated , the sixtieth anniversary of the 1 organizing of the Fourth ward Relief Re-lief Society, a In the receiving line were those ladies who had served as ward presidents during the past few years, namely: Mrs. Prudence Pal-f Pal-f reyman, Mrs. ' Deal Miller, -Mrs. Jennie Clyde, Mrs. Ethel Weight, Mrs. Lura Patrick, Mrs. Cecil Robertson, and Mrs. Catherine Russell. Welcoming guests in the hall were the present officers, Mrs. Clara Sumsion, president and Mrs. Hattie Williams and Mrs. Chloris Kindred, counselors. Over a hundred ladies attended the function including present and past members of the Fourth ward Relief Society, State Relief Society Soc-iety board members and past presidents pres-idents of the stake board and other special guests. During the afternon, string music was furnished by Betty : Hoover and Ann Johnson, accom-1 accom-1 panied by Mrs. Alberta Hoover. A short program was presented, featuring fea-turing a tribute to the past presi-dents presi-dents by Mrs. Lena Maycock. Musical Mus-ical numbers included a vocal duet ! by Mrs. Melba Wheeler and Mrs. j Vera Zobell, '.who sang two numbers num-bers and by Miss June Wood who i also gave vocal selections. Jane I Harrison entertained with a piano I solo. Mrs. Clara Sumsion, president presi-dent was in charge of the program. pro-gram. Pouring during the afternon, were past stake presidents, Mrs. Hannah Clyde, Mrs. Zelma Bear-dan Bear-dan and Mrs. Grace Crandall, present president. Mrs. Gladys Boyer was unable to attend. The Relief Society colors of gold and blue were carried out in floral decorations with an arrangement of "basket of gold" flowers with blue for-get-me-nots, bridle wreath and yellow tulips and yellow tapers tap-ers centering the serving table. Early summer flowers were used throughout the rooms. General chairman for the party, was President Clara Sumsion, assisted as-sisted by her counselors Mrs. Hat-tie Hat-tie Williams and Mrs. Chloris Kindred. Kin-dred. Secretary Esther Johnson was in charge of refreshments, assisted as-sisted by Leona Cameron and Rose Roylance. Melva" Harrison supervised super-vised the serving, which was done by Relief Society members. Program Pro-gram committee was Catherine Russell and Afton Palfreyman, while the invitations were under the direction of Mrs. Minnie Groes-beck. Groes-beck. Mrs. Reva Roylance and Mrs. Wilomina Merrill were in charge of the decorations. In the 60 years since the ward was organized there have been 11 Relief Society presidents, eight of whom are living and were present at the social. Those who have served ser-ved in that capacity are, Sarah" Houtz, first president, who served from 1892 until 1904; Harriet Hay-mond, Hay-mond, 1904 to 1915; Prudence Palfreyman, Pal-freyman, 1915 to 1925; Belva Sumsion, Sum-sion, 1925 to 1927; Deal Miller, 1927 to 1935; Jennie Clyde, 1935 to 1939; Ethel Weight, 1939 to 1940; Lura Patrick, 1940 to 1945; Cecil Robertson, 1945 to 1946; Catherine Russell, 1946 to 1948; Clara Sumsion became president in 1948 and is still serving. Springville Spring-ville was part of Utah stake until 1924, when it was divided and became be-came Kolob stake. |
