Show Mrs. A. C. Bird Dies In California; Funeral Saturday Mrs. Mary Louise Whitehead Bird, 84, widow of Amasa C. Bird, died Tuesday evening, in Los Angeles, An-geles, Calif., of bronchial pneumonia, pneu-monia, according to word received here Wednesday. Mrs. Bird, for many years a resident of Springville, had lived in Los Angeles with a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Vern A. Bird and a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Harmon, the past two years. She was born in Peterson, Morgan Mor-gan County Nov, 21, 1866, a daughter of James and Fannie Boyden Whitehead, and spent her early life there and in Sugar House, Salt Lake City, where hor father operated an early-day woolen mill. She was married to Mr. Bird in 1890 and they made their home in Springville. He died in 1925. Mrs. Bird was active in LDS church and community affairs throughout her life. She worked in the Relief Society and other auxiliary organizations and served at one time as president of the Third ward YWMIA. She was a member of the Daughter Daugh-ter of Utah Pioneers camp in Springville and was also a charter member of the Alpha Beta club. Surviving are five sons and daughters: Vern A. Bird and Dr. P. Boyden Bird of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Floyd W. (Jessica) Goates of Salzbury, Austria; Mrs. J. R. (Louise) Harmon of LaHabra, Calif.; and Mrs. W. N. (Margaret) Grooms of Salt Lake City; also eight grandchildren and one greatgrandchild; great-grandchild; a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Cfose of Los Angeles and a brother, Albert Whitehead of Twin Falls, Idaho. Funeral services are tentatively set for 12:30 p.m., Saturday in the Third-Ninth ward chapel. It is planned to have friends call at the A. C. Bird family home, 58 West Second North, before the services. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery. |
