Show Big July 4th Celebration Planned for Spnnpiile - Day-Break Salute, Parade, Program, Races Concessions, Contests, Other Events Set There will be no reason for anyone going out of j town to celebrate the Fourth of July with a full pro-igram pro-igram planned for Springville throughout the day. To Usher in festivities of the dav and to remind citizens of the significance of the Fourth of July, a day-break salute will be fired under direction of J. T. Wheeler, whose official duty it has been for many years to usher in this phase of the Independence Indepen-dence Day celebration. At 2 p.m. children of all ages and adults are also invited to participate in the games, races and contests at the City park. There will be foot races, bicycle races for ages from 8 years to SO, pie eating contest for all ages, free for-all boxing matches, a nail driving driv-ing contest for all ages and many other novel events for old and young. All will be fun to enter and fun to watch and many prizes will be given. A ball game is also being be-ing planned for 2 o'clock. A 4 p.m. there will be a patriotic patrio-tic program at the City park with some exceptional talent to take part. E. A. Strong will offer the invocation, followed by vocal selections sel-ections by Ron Carter, Brigham Young university tenor, whose first number will be "My America." Amer-ica." Paul Mortensen will give a trombone solo and this number will be followed by a talk by Mayor Edward Clyde. There will be two selections by Tim Hawi and company com-pany from Provo and a sextetto from the Bel Canto chorus will sing "I Leave with Thee." During' the program the V.F.W. will give away an 800-lb. baby beef to the holder of a lucky ticket. Big Parade A mammoth parade, reported to be one of the best ever staged here is planned for 6 p.m. There will be scores of floats entered by the Springville business houses, wards and church organizations and civic clubs.
