Show FRIENDS IN NEED 1 Probobly no other time brings out the true char acter of an individual so much as during an emergency emer-gency and during the past ten days in Springville with Hobble Creek waters rising to a record height, there has been an emergency and an opportunity to see just how many unselfish and friendly people there I are in town. I When one's own property is in danger, it is easy and natural to respond to a call for aid, but when someone else is being hurt, it is a true friend and a genuine individual, who pitches in and helps. There have been so many people who could be classed in the latter group, who unaffected materially by the flood ! waters, came to the aid of their fellow citizens, it would be impossible to list them. Many men worked through the night, fighting the high muddy water. Trucks loaded with rocks and sand made hundreds of trips to and from the flooded I areas; heavy equipment was rushed to the scene by ! ated citizens as a precaution against polluted water; i families were rescued from flooded homes, livestock i and chickens moved to other sites. Even women and ! children helped fill sandbags and served refreshments i to the workmen. . Boy Scouts were on the job and were commended for the fine job they did directing traffic from the flooded areas. The Red Cross officials responded to j the emergency. In fact everyone seemed to find the job for which they were fitted and with few except- tions helped in the emergency. ' It is not certain how long the Hobble Creek wa- ; ters will continue to flood,. but so long as they do and long after, there will be 'those on hand to help; to do the good turns which will be remembered long after the creek waters have 'gone down. |
