Show Red Devils Hope to Break Annual "Payson Jinx" in Friday Game Springville's Reel Devils will attempt to overcome over-come their annual "Payson jinx" Friday when they entertain the Lions on the Springville gridiron begin- ning at 3 p.m. Annually the Red Devils meet the Lions with strong detormina- . tion and vows to triumph, but regardless re-gardless of the strength of the two teams, the Lions always seam to hold the victory jinx over the Devils. This year the game should be no different so far as a promising stiff battle Is concerned. The Pay-son Pay-son club has dropped two league games to dato and will spare no means in trying to get into the win column via a Springville victory. vic-tory. Coach Pehrson's boys, on the other hand, will certainly be out to break the jinx and keep them in the running for the regional title. Devils Vpwt Lincoln ... Springvillo's hard tackling, fast rushing line and charging back-field back-field spelled defeat for the Lincoln Tigers on their own field last Fri- day as they took a hard earned 6-6 victory from a disappointed Lincoln club. A large homecoming crowd of partisan Lincolnites and Springville followers saw the game. Both teams played good ball and' on even terms throughout most of the game. During the first quarter, neither club seemed to gain more than 15 to 20 yards. Springville did start a drive that took them to the 50 yard line from their own 25 at the end of the quarter with a nice run by Thorn. The second quarter saw the game played for the most part near the center of the field with both teams recovering fumbles and making small gains. Most sensational sensa-tional play of the quarter came just before the half when Watts broke up a series of pass plays with a beautiful 25 yard run to the Lincoln 39. Throughout the second half both teams played hard ball and on even terms. Not till the Devils recovered recover-ed a fumble on their own 27 late in the third quarter did the complexion com-plexion of the game change in favor of the winners. Hales, promising Sophomore back, Thorn, and Co-cnptain Watts teamed together to wind up a sustained sus-tained drive from tho Lincoln 28 yard line for the score. It was the super charging of Thorn and the smooth running of Hales that paved the way for Watts' 13 yard sprint over the goal line. Springville's Spring-ville's small line contributed greatly great-ly in the touchdown drive. Holmes attempted the extra point which hit the cross bar and fell short. The game ended 4 minutes later when Francis stopped a last minute min-ute drive with an intercepted pass. Springville kicked to the Lincoln 7 yard line where tho clock stopped tho contest.
