Show 9 Brookside News By Tyra Bingham and Suzanne Strong Miss Hall was ill for two days last week and Mrs. Frandsen taught the room. This group is starting a new social science book called, "Your People and Mine." This will be a study of how people from other countries come to America to make their homes. Mrs. Wills' class is planning a party at the end of this week for Miss Colleen Black, our training teacher who will finish her work here this week. We have very much enjoyed her sunny disposition and her help. The students in Mr. Frandsen's room are writing animal stories in which animals are personified so that they talk and do things with human understandings. Some have written several. After we have corrected them, we go to the other rooms and read them to the students. Miss Baker's and Mrs. Callahan's students have been writing writ-ing back to us. They draw very nice illustrations on those they send back. Maybe we will send some of the best ones to some of the children's magazines. We hope to take part in the Kiwanis Kite day' contests on April 27. We are going to build some of our own kites. Mr. Mason's Fifth grade has just finished studying volcanoes in "Our Science World." Now we are going to study about the Star family. fam-ily. We may be able to go over to the Science building at BYU to look at the stars. Mr. Gallier will leave us after having trained in our class for the past eleven weeks. Mrs. Anderson's Kindergarten has' some of the most beautiful signs of spring in her room. There is a golden tree all filled with Signs-of-Spring birds. These birds are made out of colored eggs and feathers. There is also a big scene of little lambs playing under the clouds. One whole wall is covered with a big farm. The children are drawing and cutting out all sorts of baby animals to put on this farm. It surely looks like the prettiest pret-tiest spring imaginable in there. Miss Baker's Third grade is learning about wool clothing and sheep raising. We saw a movie about shearing sheep and knitting sweaters. We divided into committees, commit-tees, read about wool and made reports to the rooms. We are going go-ing to dye some wool cloth. This week we. are going to weave some purses, marble bags and doll sweaters. |
