Mrs. F.C.Packard On National Board of Music Mrs. F. C. Packard, Springville, Spring-ville, has been elected a member mem-ber of the board of directors of the National Federation of Music Mu-sic clubs. She received the honor hon-or at the 29th biennial convention conven-tion of the Federation held at Columbus, Ohio, which she "attended "at-tended as one of five from the state of Utah. In her new position, posi-tion, Mrs. Packard will represent repre-sent this state on the national board of the music federation. Among the highlights of the convention reported by Mrs. Packard were the finals of the Young ' Artists Auditions in which five young musical artists ar-tists were selected from divisional divi-sional auditions winners from across the nation to receive $1000 each from the National Federation of Music clubs toward to-ward helping launch them on the concert stage. This year the honors went to two vocalists, a violinist, and a pianist (all young ladies) and a negro baritone. bari-tone. Previous Young Artists Auditions winners who are now enjoying successful musical careers ca-reers were also heard 'at the convention. In furtherance of its aim to encourage prospective young musicians the National Federation Feder-ation of Music clubs also sponsors spon-sors the Student division of the auditions which includes ages 1 up to 18; and the Junior Music ' Festival, throughout the nation : in which youngsters up to 15 years of age participate. Special citations of merit are given by the Federation to those who achieve top ratings in the festivals. fes-tivals. In pursuance of one of its major aims, that of promoting American music affiliates of the Federation also sponsor the ' Parade of American Music in concerts throughout the coun- try during the month of Febru-. Febru-. ary. The Springville Federated ' Music club this year received a Merit of Award from the Na- tional Federation for its Parade of American Music. The award was rated a double award by ' the judges because the concert 1 featured music of four native Springville composers, Dr. Clair W. Johnson, Dr. Leon Dallin, Fred Clark and Glen Law. The Federation now reports an official delegate to the United Uni-ted Nations who works toward an exchange of culture with the various nations. A recent pro- |
