Show MAPLETON OBSERVES PIONEER DAY ; ' j MAPLETON A large number j of out-of-town people joined with local citizens in a Pioneer day celebration here, Tuesday. The days' program began with horse pulling contests in the forenoon. fore-noon. Despite heavy showers during dur-ing the afternoon, an excellent out-of-door program was given with talent from Springville, Spanish Fork and Mapleton participating. A ball game between two teams attracted a large crowd during dur-ing the afternoon as did the horse races and rodeo stunts. The day's events were concluded conclud-ed with a band concert by the Springville band, and a dance at 'the amusement hall in the evening. Springville Pioneer day was quietly observed here, due to elaborate elab-orate plans being made for the four day state Black Hawk encampment, en-campment, August 14 to 17. Many local citizens joined Mapleton in celebration, a number went to Ogden to participate in the Pioneer day festivities in that city, while, others sought cool retreat of nearby near-by canyons and resorts. |
