Show 0. P. To Build lew Streamliner , LOS ANGELES, Aug. 22 (U.R) William M. Jeffers, president of the Union Pacific railroad systems, sys-tems, today announced early construction of two new 17-car streamliner trains costing $5,000,-000 $5,000,-000 for service between Los Angeles An-geles and Chicago and San Francisco Fran-cisco and Chicago. Jeffers also announced that immediate steps were being taken tak-en to salvage and repair the streamliner City of San Francisco, Francis-co, which 'was derailed and wrecked Aug. 12 at Carlin, Nev., with a loss of 24 lives and scores of injured. He saia the City of San Francisco Fran-cisco would be back in service within six months.. A substitute train will leave Chicago on the wrecked train's schedule Wednesday, Wednes-day, he said. Jeffers said the new streamliners stream-liners would give both Los Angeles An-geles and San Francisco two 17 car streamliners operating to Chicago. Chi-cago. The new streamliner lor San Francisco will be in addition to the present service, he explained, while the one to be built for the Los Angeles-Chicago run will take the place of the present 13-car streamliner City of Los Angeles. He did not state what disposition disposi-tion would be made of the 13-car 13-car streamliner. The new trains will be constructed con-structed by the Associated Railroads, Rail-roads, which comprise the Union Pacific, Southern pacific and the Chicago and Northwestern Railways. |
