Show COLORADO RIVER TOUR IS ENDED . BOULDER CITY, Nev... Aug. 3 (U.R) Five adventurous scientists, two of them women faculty members mem-bers of the University of Michigan, Michi-gan, reached the end of a dangerous danger-ous trip down the Colorado river Tuesday, 41 days after they left Green River, Utah. The women, Dr. Elizabeth Clover Clo-ver and Miss Louise Jotter, were the first ever to make a successful success-ful boat trip down the Colorado. Their companions- on the final leg of the trip were Norman D. Ne-vills, Ne-vills, guide; W. C. Gibson, pho-, .tographer, and Loren . Bell and; Del Reid. - 1 Bell and Reid joined the expedition expedi-tion at Lee's Ferry, Ariz., after two others, Dan Harris and Eugene Eu-gene Atkinson, withdrew. Tanned and happy, members of the expedition said they were glad it was over. There were times, , they said, when a slip might have brought a sudden ending to their adventure: The Colorado has 500 ; rapids in it between Boulder City j and Lake Mead. Dr. Cover, who made the trip "just for a thrill," said she had more than 300 rare botanical specimens. speci-mens. She is an instructor in botany at Michigan. Most of the difficulty on the journey from Lee's Ferry was experienced ex-perienced at Serpentine and Separation Sepa-ration Rapids. Each of those is dangerous. The party was forced to make its way carefully. |
