Show Payssn Fighter tocks Out Boy From Portland Max (Miller) Young climbed another an-other step up the welterweight fistic ladder at Park Ro-She Monday Mon-day night when he scored a technical tech-nical knockout over Franky Mer-skin Mer-skin of Portland in the filth of their scheduled six-round bout. For four rounds Merskin gamely game-ly broke through Young's puzzling defense to land light blows, keeping keep-ing the match about event. Then in the fifth, Young lashed out with his overtiani; haymakers, promptly putting the Coaster "out on his feet." Young's victory won him the right to meet Jackie Burke of Ogden in a bout next Monday, provided Promoter Henry Jones is successful in completing negotiations nego-tiations with the latter. Glen Moore and Wayne Tanner stood toe to toe and slugged for four rounds. Twice Tanner scored knockdowns over Moore, and as a result, was awarded the victory by decision. The latter, who is a CCC worker, obviously showed effects ef-fects of four straight days of tramping through the snow in search of the missing airliner., Sharman Wins Jacques Eku, popular Eskimo wrestler, beat himself when he laid both shoulders squarely on the mat while applying a surfboard hold to Hy Sharman. Eku had his feet against Sharman's back, and in his effort to stretch the latters arms, didn't realize he was pinning himself. Referee Jones warned him, but unable to understand under-stand English, and failing to grasp Henry's sign language, Eku continued con-tinued his procedure until Sharman's Shar-man's arm was raised in victory. Prior to the deciding fall, Sharman Shar-man had won the first with a body slam and Eku had annexed the second with a variation of the surfboard hold. |
