Special foiUun-'s of the progr.im including the range program, the classification of land use, and other oth-er problems are being worked out as rapidly as possible and will bo announced as soon as they are ready, Director Peterson says. . I New Farm Plan Gives Time For 1937 Planting "The nnniiunci'iiu'nt of (ho l!to7 nrieulturiil conservation program lu.il vwl, more than three months earlier than in 1 3ti. will give the farmers ample opporl unily to study (he plan ami to make their definite programs for this year," Uireetor William Peterson, in charge of the program in Utah, says. "The prog-ram for 1037 for the -veslern region lias been developed to give mine mpha.sis to soil-ljuild-Ing practices which conserve soil lerfilily and prevent erosion," leoige E. Karrell, director of the Western Region, .says, "The diversion di-version payment will be $0 per acre, adjusted to productivity, for each acre diverted. In addition, S3 for each acre diverted for payment, pay-ment, as adjusted for productivity, productiv-ity, will be added to the soil-buikl-ing allowance for the farm and will be paid to farmers upon performance per-formance . of soil-building practices." prac-tices." For most farms the general soil-building allowance will be determined de-termined by multiplying the normal nor-mal soil-consci-ving acreage, plus the acres diverted, by SI. However C on farms where most of the. land I is in soil-conserving crops, the soil-building soil-building allowance will be computed com-puted by multiplying the total number of acres in cropland by 80 cents, with this rate adjusted to the productivity of the land. In cither case, additions may be made to the allowance for land in truck crops or orchards, in pastures, and in range land. Other steps in the 1037 conservation con-servation program, as outlined by Director Peterson, are as follows: 1. Soil-building practices which have been tentatively developed in Washington at a conference attended at-tended by W. W. Owens, assistant director and J. W. Gillman, of 3rem, member of the state AAA committee, will be put in final form and announced. 2. Community meetings will lie held in .Janua--' for the purpose of electing c : nmunity committeemen committee-men and completing the county committees, and explaining the general outlines of the 1037 program. pro-gram. 3. Farmers will be given opportunity oppor-tunity to meet individually with their local committeemen or coun- j ty agent and to find out just how the 1937 program applies to ' their farms. At this time every farmer will have an opportunity to sign a work sheet. Every farmer farm-er should thus have a chance to know before planting time how much the 1937 program can mean |
