The hounds stayed on the track and were run over. somewhat on the same order of the CCC camps for young men. are the newest developments in the federal program for the unemployed. un-employed. Such camps have long been contemplated, having had their beginning in an experimental way shortly after the first CCC camps were opened. Girls selected for the camps, in accordance with NYA employment " requirements, must be "in need" and between 18 and 25 years old. They have the status of NYA project employes em-ployes and earn their subsistence plus $5 monthly in cash for their upkeep. i Beginning in Sepetmber, 1933, for the first time a special relief re-lief program for women was organized on a national basis. During Dur-ing the high point of employment on the Civil works Administration program which began later that year 216,700 women were given jobs. Work-relief activities which followed the disbandment of the civil works program in the spring of 1934 gave employment to several hundred thousand women, and 400,000 women are now employed em-ployed in the WPA program, j |
